Shakespeare in the ‘Burg
Every summer the Virginia Shakespeare Festival presents two plays by a particular playwright, whose name you can probably guess given the title of the festival. The last few years they have also presented a third non-Shakespeare play courtesy of the Wedgewood Renaissance theater group.
(As an aside, my father has performed with the Wedgewood Renaissance group for a number of years, both before and since they have been included in the Virginia Shakespeare Festival. I think this is really really cool. Although it is a little strange watching him in dramatic roles, in a “Wait, why is Daddy angry and shouting?” kind of way - which really just means he does a good job and makes it look real.)
This year the Festival is presenting the Tempest and a sort-of non-Shakespeare entitled The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged). We saw the Tempest last weekend, and The Compleat Works yesterday.
