The Experiment Continues

Published by Bit at 10:47 am under Food For Thought

Since yesterday’s experiment was a delightful success, I decided to go for it again. This time with sushi!

Sushi is something I’ve grown to enjoy over time. I started simple, with California Rolls, and for a long time that was the only sushi I would eat. My tastes and interests have expanded over time to include a variety of things, although I’m sure to most hardcore sushi-ists, I’d be considered very tame.

Note: Sushi does not mean raw fish! Sushi actually refers to the type of vinegared rice that’s involved in the making of it. Though much sushi is raw, much of it is not. So if you’ve never had sushi, don’t let the “ew, raw fish” concept drive you away from it. Best way to try sushi? Go to a japanese restaurant for lunch with someone who you know likes sushi, and ask to try some of it.

Yesterday I needed to swing by the grocery store to grab some munchies for Bridge Night, and I grabbed a couple packages of nigiri sushi, in theory for dinner. Then due to timing, I ended up grabbing a more transportable dinner from Chikfila, and my pretty sushi went into the fridge. So this morning when I was packing my lunch, sushi seemed like the perfect main dish!

Today's Bento Box LunchHere’s today’s results:

  • Minute Maid Orange Juice
  • Nigiri Sushi (salmon and tuna)
  • Sliced Strawberries
  • Seedless Green Grapes
  • Irish Soda Bread

That last item just goes to show yet another advantage of the bento box. It’s a leftovers vacuum! I’d filled up all but one little slot of my box, and was trying to find something with an appealing contrast, in flavor, texture, and color. Peering into the fridge, I spotted the last of the Irish Soda Bread left from last night’s bridge party. So I sliced off two little corners and tucked them into the box.

I am quite looking forward to lunch today.
